Patreon May 2021 critique by Labanya

Hello there! Hope things are well there, here things are nice, can’t say very bad, even though they look very grim.

I have just finished reading the May bunch of Patreon books created/written by Sharmishtha Basu, sharing my honest opinion about them, hoping they will bring a few much needed patrons her way!

1. Agnilipi [writing/letter of fire]: It contains 10 gorgeous photographs taken by Sharmishtha Basu. They are pleasing and pretty to my eyes. My favorite is the final shot of flamingo spreading its wings.

2. Agnipat [portrait of fire]: It contains 10 paintings of butterflies, dragonflies and one painting of firefly. Quite well painted, I love butterflies, who does not? So, loved the book for sure!

3. Agnimalya [garland of fire]: This book contains a set of mixed fantasy stories. My favorite was “the delay” absolute loved the twist in this sci-fi fantasy. “Vampire in love” was fun too.

4. Coming Kingdom: this one was a fantastic read, I thoroughly enjoyed the stories, all but one were fantasy, the one that was not fantasy was really thought provoking!

5. SBPnB [Sharmishtha Basu’s Pen n Brush]: It contains 10 illustrated poems, the paintings are pretty and the poems are really good

Will return next month with critiques, till then stay safe!
yours truly,
Labanya

Hi friends, let us begin!

Jyeshtha issue begins with a shot from Golconda fort, the tribute this month has been paid to Razia Sultana, it was tragic that she was born in an age ruled by men! I have always admired this lady.

Can I begin again by Scott Hastie: What a beauty!

blackhole by saptarchi: Saptarchi struck the nail right on head when S said that saffron brigade is a blackhole devouring the country.

Fogline by Brieuc Martin Onraet 13: A new story has just begun.

Vela Vela by Vasu Srinivasan translated by Raghunandan Kuppuswamy: Very well written and translated piece, these people certainly earn every penny they earn and more. I wonder how they manage it!

Magna by Troy David Loy: Agni Bose is one of the villains of the story. There is no other way of describing the character. Interesting that he picked up Agni Bose as the name of such a negative character! Looks like Mr. Loy has weakness for south Indians and dislike for us Bongs. What a pity!

Alienated… by Dom Collucci: Beautifully written. Ah! If only we could travel through space!

Bitter Pill dose 42 by Bitter Pill: Press 5: Raveesh Kumar indeed is one of rare honest Indian journalists.

Speechless by Manju Balkrishna: Losing a loved one is horrible tragedy. That loss is never forgotten.

Dream Angel by Pat Ritters 1: Great story-telling, a memoir of Mr. Ritter’s childhood, his parents and grandparents and the stories they told him. It has just begun.

Treats:

5 lovely shots- loved the nest photo most. It is hard to catch a bird sitting in the nest.

This month Linkedin Requests are worth checking out if you are a writer or artist.

Aura vere by Freya Pickard: Sounds like a good book.

Pikatron by Troy David Loy sounds like a great reading material with fractals as added beauty!

Agnijaat book 15 and Agnishatdal book 15, They will be out this month, and thanks again for the book on my works Agni.

Star of the Month Abida Parveen Great artist, heard her in YouTube.

Star of West Peter Cushing: Another charismatic actor.

Star of east Abanindranath Thakur- I love his stories and paintings both.

Youtubia-Drekster Astral- Will check him out.

Loved the Bengali poem and the hindi poem both. Thank you for adding my work summer noon in your ezine Agni and translating it for me.

Hiranyaksha- Interesting story.

TnW- Decide- good suggestion.

Bhandananda- the attitude of politicians perfectly captured.

The sketches all through the ezine were pretty, very colourful and lovely.

Agnijaat Jyeshtha begins with a fun Jamai Shashthi cartoon. Well, let us hope that things will get better after vaccination. Let us simply pray that things will get better and people won’t starve.

Indie Author Speaks: Reading and writing- A good author must be a good reader. A good speaker should be good listener.

FTQFS: There is a beautiful world outside kitchen.

Techbabble: Microsoft products are really becoming more and more user unfriendly and irritating.

India Now: Indian Hypocrisy 2 – Another harsh and true piece. Really grim side of Indian society has been shown in these two pieces.

SOS: Million dollar truth- worst people are those who hide their fury, venom behind sweetness and charm.

Intriguing Tales: Never ever judge a book by its cover!

History of India: Interesting piece about entry of Aryans in India.

My Pen: of journalists 2: If we don’t stand up for honest journalists we are digging our own grave.

Fun and Frolic section:

New pic for the section, a cute hedgehog! it was followed by a pretty painting and a beautiful photograph.

New Poetry by Scott Hastie: Mr. Hastie’s poetry is really fabulous.

Corona virus pandemic poem by Graham Clingbine: Wonder if it is grim or just multicolored observation.

Pikatron November 2019 critique by Editor: Will have to get the newsletter from Troy or Agni.

X files : Never liked the series. I utterly dislike the lead actors, both of them!

Indian Raga Now:

Krishna Chatterjee- Just love her.

SPOTLIGHT ON- Jackie Chan- Have watched a few movies by him, he is really good!

Window to West – King Lear: I really want to watch some good portrayals of Shakespeare works, not cheesy, altered ones, genuine ones so look for this one.

Baishakh Shots: Four lovely shots!

Youtube channel: Already checked them all out.

Storytime: poetry from Patreon: great message.

Ganga Saptami: Another river’s birthday, this time Ganges. Beautiful story of her descent, I have read them all before but not at one place.

Theme: lillies- Seven exquisite paintings.

The cartoon Mr Stick: Another dose of reality. How our politicians change colour after being elected.

In the end quite enjoyed the Ezine, and its colourful sketches/paintings especially they are refreshing and pretty!

That is it I guess! See you again next month, and thank you Agni/Sharmishtha for translating my works!

Yours sincerely,
Labanya

Hi friends, let us begin with a happy new year! Wish you all a very blessed new year 2021!

Magh issue begins with a colourful greeting followed by a tribute to Ramkrishna, grew up reading a lot about him, but it is always good to read a bit more!

Love by Scott Hastie- What a poem!

Of drum-rolls and Indians 2 by saptarchi: Harsh, sincere truths wish I could disagree or contradict but they are truth.

Fogline by Brieuc Martin Onraet 8: Another hilarious take on human physiology. How funny we may look to someone who is not at all familiar with human beings!

A secret revealed by Raghunandan Kuppuswamy: another piece sharing the love the son had for their father.

Planet fall by Troy David Loy: Great story of some of the characters of the author meeting for the first time.

Flight is light… by Dom Collucci: priceless beauty of a poem by a truly gifted, wise poet.

Bitter Pill dose 39 by Bitter Pill: Press: Great take on Indian mainstream press.

Lose the load 1 by Brendan: Great introspection on human society.

The Tilbaroo station by Pat Ritters 5: Another cute installment of the life of newlyweds.

Treats:

Beautiful greeting Sharmishtha!

5 cute shots- these too are from Agni’s December photography loved them all.

This month Linkedin Requests shares few more requests worth checking out [by authors].

The shearer by Pat Ritter: Read quite a bit of the story and it certainly will be a good one.

Pikatron by Troy David Loy sounds like a great reading material with fractals as added beauty!

SBs’ book in amazon, The prisoner of sand castle- sounds like an interesting read.

Star of the Month Ustad Shaukat Ali Khan- Never heard his name, will check out her videos in YouTube.

Star of West Emily Blunt: Have watched Devil wears Prada, can’t say I loved the character but she is a good actress for sure, will have to watch a few more before drawing a conclusion.

Star of east Nutan- She was a priceless gem. So beautiful, sweet and elegant! I absolutely adore this actress. She has starred in so many powerful roles!

Youtubia-Randy Rainbow- Will have to check!

Minutes Together: the gift from Agnimalya, patreon- human nature well captured!

Loved the Bengali poem and the hindi poem both. Thank you for adding my work poush sankranti in your ezine Agni.

Tripur- Bitter lesson for those who follow anyone blindly, even the wisest looking teacher can misguide you!

TnW- Indeed, there are those days when magic happens again and again!

Scaredy Stick- Good question!

The sketches all through the ezine were pretty, very colourful and lovely.

That is it I guess! See you again next month, and thank you Agni/Sharmishtha for translating my works!

Yours sincerely,
Labanya

Agnijaat Poush begins with republic day greeting, a beautiful greeting. It is high time Indians should start talking about their rights in this country that is heading straight towards autocracy.

Indie Author Speaks: good tips on editing your own works. This is something we all can use, writers or not.

FTQFS: Getting rid of envious women means living in a place where women don’t exist!

Techbabble: manual vs. auto mode- will keep in mind if I ever buy a digital camera!

Corona diaries 5: Feku and co. is leading this country straight to hell. It is interesting though how casual Indians are about all this. Maybe, they have finally got the political party they deserve!

SOS: Well said, jealousy truly can be felt, even if it is hidden behind fake smile and compliments.

Intriguing Tales: Light- Ah we grew up hearing the story of Mother Goddess Durga’s birth, and we never grow tired of this story. It is priceless!

History of India: Interesting piece from India’s past.

My Pen: wake up India 5: We really need a brand new party led by a good leader and followed by decent people. Maybe in an interim election, if this party stays in power for another four years India will never recover from damages it will cause.

Fun and Frolic section:

The suffragette by Pat Ritter: Pat’s books sound more like historical novels. This one is about women’s fight for the right to vote. Glad that Indian politicians were far more liberal than many when it comes to women but hey! We are now snatching away rights from women in 21st century, like what religion they will follow or who they will marry!

Sharmishtha Basu’s Pen n Brush book 7 ocean blue: Sounds like beautiful book of paintings and verses.

Pikatron July 2019 critique by Editor: Will have to get the newsletter from Troy or Agni.

10 horror movies I hated: Keep them in mind if I watch horror movies, I am not a big fan of horror movies, most are boring!

Indian Raga Now: Amirbai Karnataki- discovered few of her songs in YouTube, she certainly was really gifted.

SPOTLIGHT ON- Glenn Campbell- He certainly had a magical voice, his songs are very touching too!

Window to West – Abbott and Costello meets Jekyll and Hyde: I wonder why more movies were not made with this couple. Maybe they did not showed up in India or YouTube. These movies are simply awesome!

Poush Shots: Five cute shots from home-front, they are lovely.

Youtube channel: Already checked them all out.

Storytime: The passage from SBPnB Patreon: Sounds like an interesting fantasy story is about to begin.

Sakat Chauth: Learned about a new festival.

Theme: Gargoyle- Seven beautiful paintings.

The cartoon Mr Stick: very true. Things would have been different had covid-19 been covid-18! Politicians would have been serving the public hands and feet!

In the end quite enjoyed the Ezine, and its colourful sketches/paintings especially they are refreshing and pretty!

That is it I guess! See you again next month, and thank you Agni/Sharmishtha for translating my works!

Of drum-rolls and Indians by saptarchi: Harsh, sincere truths.

Fogline by Brieuc Martin Onraet 8: Another hilarious piece of an angel explaining human body as a lab rat’s features!

A secret revealed by Raghunandan Kuppuswamy: Well, with sons like them he should feel blessed not angry!

Gods of Terra by Troy David Loy: Background story on Gods of Terra, quite an interesting piece.

Heaven takes a trip… by Dom Collucci: beautiful poetry by a truly gifted poet.

Bitter Pill dose 38 by Bitter Pill: Secular India 5: Valid points again, Hindus should stop being thugs and Indian politicians should start treating them like equals with followers of other religions, neither superior nor inferior.

Energy by Brendan: Beautiful piece, a piece about a soul looking for soulmate.

The Tilbaroo station by Pat Ritters 5: Another cute installment of the life of newlyweds.

Treats:

Lovely greeting Sharmishtha!

5 lovely shots- these too are from Agni’s November photography loved them all.

This month Linkedin Requests shares few more requests worth checking out [by authors].

The proposition by Pat Ritter: Sounds like new type of story.

Pikatron by Troy David Loy sounds like a great reading material with fractals as added beauty!

SBs’ book in amazon, The bridge of her dreams- sounds like an interesting read.

Star of the Month Kanan devi- She is another legend of old times, will check out her videos in YouTube. Have heard one or two already!

Agnijaat Poush 1427, December 2020
https://gumroad.com/l/Vvffb
https://shoptly.com/i/b28a

Agnijaat Poush begins with christmas greeting, a cute greeting of which we Indians know almost nothing, we never hang our stockings on Christmas eve or whenever they are hung, to most of us Christmas is synonymous to cakes and pastries!  Wish you all a very blessed 2021!

Indie Author Speaks: four good tips for Indie authors, to be a successful indie author you have to work hard! Talent, luck and toil will certainly take you to high places.

FTQFS: True words about single life. It is made hard by society but if you can ignore it or rise above it, you are in heaven!

Techbabble: I never noticed this part of camera vs. smartphone photography, they do never talk about the “zoom”, that is a huge advantage of cameras if you ask me. Way too huge!

Corona diaries 4: It is really scary to realize how lie and liars are controlling this country now. Rapidly and steadily they are taking the country to hell and Indians being themselves are sitting on the couch and watching the decline.

SOS: Absolutely! Take out some time to do the things you love!

Intriguing Tales: Light- Ah we grew up hearing the story of Mother Goddess Durga’s birth, and we never grow tired of this story. It is priceless!

History of India: Interesting piece from India’s past.

My Pen: wake up India 4: Indian opposition was never good, it was not good when Congress ruled the roost, and it is miserable when BJP is ruling the roost. They are pathetic. India should have gone for a bi-party system like USA, that might have saved the public from parties popping up like jack in the box and destroying the political system of the country.

Fun and Frolic section:

The shearer by Pat Ritter: Sounds like an interesting story about shearer’s strike of Australia. This one was an unfamiliar term!

Urania’s table 2: Sounds like an interesting sci-fi story, the kind many of us love, ah, wont I love to travel through the universe and visit new planets!

Pikatron June 2019 critique by Editor: Will have to get the newsletter from Troy or Agni.

Bad PRO: Honestly if people watch movies and believe in them, most of them will not visit middle-east or USA, or dream of settling in any of these two countries! 

Indian Raga Now:

Rajkumari- She sang like a nightingale, found a few of her songs in YouTube.

SPOTLIGHT ON- Roger Whittaker- What a voice, what a singer! I really loved the lyrics of quite a few of his songs.

Window to West – Dracula dead and loving it: This one is an utterly hilarious movie! Just loved watching it, watched it twice already!

Agrahayan Shots: Five beautiful shots from home-front, they are lovely.

Youtube channel: Already checked them all out.

Storytime: haiku from Patreon: This time a poem, a haiku for a change, about life.

Christmas: I will someday love to attend a full Christmas celebration, starting from scratch to end.

Theme: Centaur- Seven cute paintings.

The cartoon Mr Stick: The story continues. Now our “servants” are looking the other way when farmers are dying under the open sky right in front of their noses. That includes our “head servant”! Where is this country heading?

In the end quite enjoyed the Ezine, and its colourful sketches/paintings especially they are refreshing and pretty!

That is it I guess! See you again next month, and thank you Agni/Sharmishtha for translating my works!

Agnishatdal Agrahayan 1427, November 2020
https://gumroad.com/l/HkhrN
https://shoptly.com/i/bvm4

Hi friends, let us begin!

Agrahayan issue begins with tribute to Subhaschandra Bose, one of the greatest leaders of Indian independence war.

Parasites Inc. by saptarchi: I agree with the authoress, the politicians should be legally bound to show the things they have done for their constituency before they could appear for the next election, after being elected once of course. They will have to legally explain why the promises they made were not kept. Then the public will decide whether or not it will vote for them again.

Fogline by Brieuc Martin Onraet 8: Another fun installment of human beings being created by God and angels in a laboratory.

A secret revealed by Raghunandan Kuppuswamy: Sounds like a beautiful story of a father and his three songs who truly loved him.

Fractal dawn by Troy David Loy: Yet another piece on Troy’s favorite, Meera, sounds like an interesting character. Fascinating piece this time.

Heart has love… by Dom Collucci: very beautiful poem, filled with beauty and joy.

Bitter Pill dose 37 by Bitter Pill: Secular India 4: Very valid points, maybe Indian politicians can think about writing some new rules, regulations and laws with the help of actual experts to make India a true secular nation. Not merely on paper.

Pilgrim by Brendan: Fantastic piece by Brendan.

The Tilbaroo station by Pat Ritters 5: The newlyweds pick up the spot for their new home. Very beautifully written piece, you can actually see them making their plans.

Treats:

Lovely greeting Sharmishtha!

5 lovely shots- these too are from Agni’s October photography loved them all.

This month Linkedin Requests shares Scott Hastle and firstgear’s social media details, will check them out!

Tilbaroo Station by Pat Ritter: Will absolutely check it out.

Pikatron by Troy David Loy sounds like a great reading material with fractals as added beauty!

SBs’ book in amazon, The spirits of darkness and light sounds like a very interesting book, absolutely worth checking out.

Star of the Month Indubala devi- She is another legend of old times, will check out her videos in YouTube.

Star of West Rock: He is fun to watch, have watched two or three comedy movies of him all were fun.

Star of east Mina Kumari- She was a priceless gem.

Youtubia-Bharat Ek Mauj- Not bad at all, we need brave people like him in larger no.

Minutes Together: playful was a fun story. Loved it.

Loved the Bengali poem and the hindi poem both. Thank you for adding my work Holud sorsher phool in your ezine Agni.

Saubhari- Interesting story, can’t say that the modern woman in me loved the story but it was interesting all the same.

TnW- Sounds like a great day.

Scaredy Stick- True again Mr. Stick, your anger is quite valid.

The sketches all through the ezine were pretty, very colourful and lovely.

That is it I guess! See you again next month, and thank you Agni/Sharmishtha for translating my works!
